Description:

The photo depicts a young woman and a young man. They are both dressed in elegant dark outfits. The woman is in a dress, the man – in a suit with a tie. According to the photo’s owner, it was taken in Lübeck (Germany) in 1943 and depicts her grandmother’s friend with her fiancé. She also came from the village of Polędzie and during the war was deported to Germany for forced labour. There she met a man from Yugoslavia whom she married. After the war they emigrated to the United States and lived in Chicago ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village).
