Object description:

Photo (scan from slide). A chapel in honor of the male deity Vachchada dada before the beginning of the night rituals combined with singing and dancing at the kachchi rabari shepherds. The photo shows the lower parts of wooden figures representing horse riders. A fire is burning, next to the incense and the offerings - brown molasses and white sugar - offered by the faithful. The shrine is closed every day, the door is open here. On the threshold there is an iron chain (hangar) used during the ceremony. Some participants in a state of ecstasy slap each other on the back. On the right side of the chain, there is also a fragment of a metal vessel with pieces of coconut - an offering to the deity. These are the elements of the Hindu ceremonial considered to be folk. The photo shows the oldest of the priests (bhopa) from Rabari shepherd during the night rituals. The ceremony took place during a full moon and lasted all night from dusk to sunrise. During the festival, but before dusk, several goats were sacrificed and the meat was cooked and eaten before midnight. Singing and dancing to the accompaniment of drums lasted until morning. Bhopa from rabari shepherds wears a red turban. The ceremony was attended by both kachchi rabari from nearby villages and dheberiya rabari.
