Object description:

The photo shows a fragment of the shepherds' wedding ceremony. It is a group of wedding guests, in traditional costumes of rabari shepherds. There are children in the foreground, women in the back. Guests are dressed in festive costumes, women in characteristic long black shawls with red dots. Young women are decorated with silver jewelry to indicate their married status (and in the case of girls, a sign of engagement). For the duration of the ceremony, the young couple are tied together with a 'holy' rope. In the case of rabari shepherds, the altar is a fire lit by the priest, which the young couple then surrounds.
