Abstract:

The article focuses on toponyms genetically related to the princely law in the Piast monarchy. Historical terms (opole, przesieka, brona, stróża, stróże, dziesiętne, ujazd, lgota) have been recorded in them. The correct explanation of these names implies the use of historical knowledge and appropriate research methodology. The extension of the linguistic perspective of description with the know ledge of the historical context and the reconstructed onyms enables a new interpretation and explains the relations between the form, original meaning and function of the described proper names
