A model developed for studying the population dynamic consequences of female territoriality (as seen Clethrionomys populations) is analyzed. Specifficaly we investigate the plausibility of Bujalska's (1970) hypothesis for explaining the stability of the central European populations of C. glareolus, and the role of Wiger's (1982) hypothesis for explaining the cyclicyty of the more northern populations of C. glareolus.
