Description:

The aim of the study was assess how social position of a growing red deer stag is related to antler development. 17 stags were observed in the period between 1976-1983. The social position of each stag within the group was estimated during competition for food during the time of antler growth. Social position of each stag was then related to antler size. The majority of antler measurements showed significant correlation with the rank position of the stag.
