Observations were made on the marking activity of a population of otters Lutra lutra (Linaeus, 1758) in Wales, United Kingdom, over the period 1981-1984, with monthly counts of signs at nine 1 km stretches of river. Marking was found to be distinctly seasonal, with peaks in winter and early spring in all three years of study.
