Celem pracy było wyznaczenie w południowo-wschodniej Polsce obszarów, na których pojawy polników i myszy wyrządzają istotne szkody gospodarcze oraz przedstawienie fluktuacji ilościowych tych gryzoni w okresie 23 powojennych lat (1945-1967). Badaniami objęto trzy województwa (kieleckie, krakowskie, rzeszowskie=53.505 km2), których wspólną cechą jest górzystość i związany z tym charakter gospodarki rolnej.
