Abstract:

This article examines the opinions on Jan Hus presented by Jiří Kejř, a distinguished Czech historian of canon law and a top expert on Hussite studies, who passed away in April 2015. The author stresses Kejř’s multiple contributions to the study of Hus’s life. In addition he discusses a wide spectrum of Kejř’s research covering various areas, though focused on legal issues. Kejř’s findings are characterized by his extraordinary knowledge of primary sources, attention to detail, and amazing analytical abilities that enabled him to treat Hus with objectivity and erudition, free from any preconceptions and biases.
