Artykuł dotyczy problematyki wielofunkcyjności gospodarstw rolniczych. Umiejętne łączenie funkcji produkcyjnej z funkcjami społecznymi, kulturowymi i środowiskowy-mi prowadzi do rozwoju gospodarstwa, wyrażającego się nie tylko w kategoriach dochodowych i prywatnych, lecz również w kategoriach dóbr publicznych. Rozwój wielofunkcyjności gospodarstw opiera się na wykorzystaniu zasobów związanych ze środowiskiem rolniczym i wiejskim (łącznie z kapitałem ludzkim i społecznym) i wyraża się poprzez podejmowanie nowego rodzaju działalności rolniczych, jak również pozarolniczych, choć opartych na funkcjonowaniu gospodarstwa.
