Abstract:
The Cultural Revolution, launched in 1966 by Mao Zedong, was a radical attempt to transform Chinese society and eliminate political opponents. Its turbulent course led to profound disruptions in political and social life, also affecting China’s relations with foreign states. This article examines the persecution of foreign diplomats in 1966–1967, with particular focus on the situation of the Embassy of the Polish People’s Republic in Beijing. It presents the forms of pressure exerted on Polish diplomatic representatives and discusses the broader context of escalating tensions between China and the Soviet Union
