Abstract:

The article concerns the Russian Song Festival in Zielona Góra in the last decade of the Polish People’s Republic. The article presents the reasons for selecting Zielona Góra as the festival venue. It discusses disputes between the then authorities and Solidarity’s emerging organisational structures over the depoliticisation of the festival, including its two editions during and six editions after martial law. It analyses actions undertaken by the or-ganisers to improve the artistic sphere of the festival, as well as those aimed at preserving its ideological and propagandist aims.
