Title:

[Celebrations of gathering soil for Piłsudski’s Mound] [An iconographic document]

Date issued/created:

[1935]

Description:

The photo depicts a large group of people. In the foreground there are mainly children. These people are standing in front of a large, white house. The main plan of the photo is set out by the arrangement of people on both sides with an empty space in the middle – with only a table with a radio (?) in the empty space. There is another large group of people behind the table. On the right side of the table there is a standing priest, and on the left there is a man in a bright coat. On the back of the photo there is the following inscription: “Collecting of soil from outside of the rectory in Podegrodzie – the place where Marshall Józef Piłsudski resided in 1914 – for the mound of Marshall J. Piłsudski’s in Kraków. Podegrodzie 1935" ; 1935, Podegrodzie, district Nowosądecki ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
