Description:

One of the main municipal centres in the territorial organization of early medieval Poland. The initial attempts to create a few centres in the early phase of the early Middle Ages: Kalisz-Wydarte, the settlement and the opened settlement and the settlement opened with the cementery and the settlement from the tribal age on Zawodzie in Kalisz, closed along with the Piast period with tidying the settlement up, with centralizing the power (castle on Zawodzie) and with entering of the Christianity - the first church in Kalisz on the castle on Zawodzie. An existence of a few phases of construction of the castle was demonstrated, beginning from the 9th century throughout next stages in X-XI and next in the XII century. Long-term examinations excavation, carried out by the IHKM PAN, were held in years 1953, 1955-1965, 1973-1975, 1997, 2001-2003, 2009.
