Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). Young couple during the wedding ceremony in the company of family. In the center the groom wearing festively decorated turban on the head, richly decorated colorful jacket and with a sword in his right hand. On the right the bride with face covered by a green-and-orange veil. Colorful veil indicates that the bride is still maiden. Change of the veil from colorful to black with pattern made at the end of the ceremony is a visual sign of recognition of the status of married women. Both - the groom and the bride - are connected to a white cotton rope. This is an important part of the wedding ceremony signifying created bonds of marriage. They both sit in front of the Hindu priest (Brahmin of Rajgor caste) - the picture shows the back of his head - just before the encirclement of the sacred fire. On the right side you see 'pole' set of copper pots also part of the Hindu symbolism. The ceremony takes place in the village of the bride. On the back are visible women in black veils with rich jewels on the chest belonging to the family of the bride. Men dressed in white are groomsmen
