Description:

Photography (scan from a slide). Men and women dressed in typical clothes of shepherds rabari kachchi group. Clothes, colors and patterns indicate belonging to the appropriate subgroups. Men in white - in pants, caftan and turban, and women in black - a skirt, jacket, long black wool veil (ludi) on the head with embroidered designs with silver necklace (siyal). Picture was taken during the rite of Vachchada Dada. It takes place in the middle of the day (Kartik Sud, first Monday), rather than the other after dark. Participants gather around shrines lying in the field - men sit on the shrines, sing and play, and women sitting on the ground. It is also an opportunity to give the names of children who were born during the year. During the ceremony, one of the helpers take another baby on the hands, and bhopa, a type of medium in a red turban, falls into a trance and give children names
