[Digging potatoes] [An iconographic document]
Date issued/created: Description:According to the owner of the photo, it shows his grandparents digging the potatoes during the first potato harvest after the war. It was taken in 1945 by the donor’s uncle from the village of Kocina ; The photo shows four women and a man with hoes in their hands stooping above the field, working. The women are dressed in everyday clothes and headscarves and the man is wearing a light-coloured shirt, dark trousers and a light-coloured hat. On the ground there lie deep wicker baskets. Village buildings are visible in the background ; 1945, Kocina ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
