Abstract:

The aim of this work and to what extent the mild reduction in the sodium concetration to the level observed in patients affects the basic mechanisms of the regulation of cerebral vascular tone. In addition, this study adresses the question arising from clinical observations whether the response of cerebral blood vessels to low sodium concentration dependes on the duration of hyponatremia. Disclosure of the vascular effects of hyponatremia could possibly help to elaborate the optimal treatment of patients, who demonstrate brain symptoms connected with hyponatremia.g
