Abstrakt:

The article is an attempt at introductory archival reconnaissance into a new research subject. It was based mainly on search queries conducted in the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw and archives of selected central agencies (Ministries of : the Environments and of Agriculture and Rural Development) which had never been explored by historians for this purpose. Analysed documents allow us to broaden and verify the established facts found in sparse specialist literature on the subject. This concerns, for instance, a number of fatalities resulting from floods and various problems with the functioning of the flood control system in the Polish People’s Republic. The analysed acts included little references to a human dimension of floods, everyday life under conditions of natural disaster. This issue requires further research that would use as sources also, among other things, press articles and autobiographies.
