Abstract:The author discusses Scandinavian finds that may help in elucidating the problems of the multi-headed idol cult among Baltic Slavs. The Scandinavian mythology however does only know of three- headed super-human beings why it may be possible that the four-headed motif could have been adopted by the Vikings from their neighbours on the southern Baltic coast. However, centuries earlier the Sutton Hoo find indicates the cult of elongated - whet-stone like objects with multiple-faced terminals. These objects resemble the wooden figure from Wolin. The hypothesis of ceremonial and religious use of whetsones is forwarded
