Abstract:

Analysis was made of food and faeces composition of Asellus aquaticus L. distinguishing ash, lipids, proteins, carbohydrates and lignin contents. Calculated percentages were applied to absolute values of consumption and defecation rates assessed earlier (Prus 1971) for various groups of these animals. Absolute values of components of assimilated food obtained by difference (C - F = A) were then expressed as per cent of dry weight or ash-free dry weight. Efficiencies with which nutritional components of food were assimilated by various groups of these animals are also given.
