Abstract:

Experiments were carried out to follow the effect of organic fertilization on the transpiration of six helophyte species: Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud., Glyceria aquatica (L.) Wahlb., Typha latifolia L., T. angustifolia L., Acorus calamus L. and Schoenoplectus lacustris (L.) Palla. Liquid manure was found to have a strong inhibitory effect on the transpiration of helophytes, and when used as a 100% solution it caused plants to wilt within a short time. As a result of treatment with 25% liquid manure, the helophytes utilized less water to produce their biomass. Following the treatment, the water content in the plants varied much less than did the transpiration rate.
