Abstract:

Zooplankton communities (crustaceans and rotifers) in nine lakes of the Great Masurian Lakes complex (with considerably different morphometry and less different trophic state) have similar composition and dominance structure during the summer stagnation. Only the communities from mesotrophic Lake Mamry Północne and from polymictic Lake Śniardwy differ quite significantly from the rest. A singificant increase was found of the number and biomass of Cyclopoida, of the number of Rotatoria and of the species diversity of non-predatory Cladocera and of the whole Crustacea and Rotatoria communities with an increase of values of the trophic state index. It was found, also, that together with an increase of pressure of predatory crustaceans, the species diversity in populations of their potential prey, the non-predatory Cladocera and Crustacea, increases, too.
