Abstract:

In the two-year studies, the species composition was determined and the changes in density and biomass were analysed for Enchytraeidae inhabiting four forest ecosystems. In all these ecosystems Cognettia sphagnetorum accounted for 68 to 98% of the total density and for 71 to 98% of the total biomass of this group. Production of the dominant species and of the species sexually reproducing was estimated. In general, C. sphagnetorum produced biomass of an energy content ranging from 17.3 to 94.4 kJ · m-2 · year-1, depending on the season and plant community. The P : B ratio for this species varied from 2.4 to 3.8.
