Abstract:

The paper contains general information about 42 dimictic and polymictic lakes representative for north-eastern Poland and is an introduction to a series of 12 papers. The main object of these papers is a characteristic of structural and functional relations of lake ecosystems depending on their trophic state and mictic character. Average and maximum phosphorus load for dimictic lakes was 1.1 and 8.8, respectively, and for polymictic lakes 2.6 and 16.8. In 65% of dimictic lakes the visibility of Secchi disc decreased in relation to that recorded 15-28 years ago.
