Abstract:

Two lakes heated by power-plant cooling waters were studied: Lake Ślesińskie (stratified, heated temporarily, with a hot-water discharge through a spring-board) and Lake Gosławskie (polymictic, heated constantly, with an overflow-hot water discharge). In both the lakes there occurred considerable changes in zooplankton structure and functioning (earlier occurrence of summer forms, changed spatial distribution and species diversity of rotifer and crustacean communities) in relationship to the way of discharge of heated waters and lake morphometry.
