Abstract:

The study deals with the changes in the glycogen content and the glycogenphosphorylase activities in the rat brain following single subcutaneous administrationof insulin in a lu/100 g body weight dose. The treatment caused a decreaseof blood glucose level persisting for 6 hrs, with a maximum drop (to ca. 35% ofthe control level) observed 2-3 hrs after the hormone administration. The hypoglycemicperiod was accompanied by a decrease of the brain glycogen content coinciding with a rise in the activity of the active, 5’-AMP-independent form ofglycogen phosphorylase.
