Abstract:

The authors present two cases with morphologic traits common to diffuse sclerosis of Schilder’s type and typical disseminated sclerosis. In the first case, concerning a 35-year-old male, signs of a diffuse process of demyelination predominated, while disseminated plaques occupied a secondary position. In the second case, that of a 32-year-old female, although the pattern of disseminated sclerosis predominated, some areas of demyelination were becoming diffuse, achieving the line of U-fibers with indefinite demarcation. Both cases constitute new examples of thee strict relationship between both types of demyelination. In both cases the lipid degeneration had a sudanophilic character. The abundant glial reaction and perivascular infiltrations in the first case are. noteworthy, but considered by the authors to be symptomatic.
