Abstract:

The process due to which Wielkopolska seems to change to steppe, had been caused by the shortsighted economy as regards natural problems (devastation of forests, inappropriate melioration, one-sided regulation of rivers, etc.). If a territory takes a form of steppe, then agricultural conditions visibly change for worse, and so the humidity of the environment decreases, and the detrimental influence of air erosion increases.The negative infuence of the “steppe” process can be diminuated by afforestation of the fields, the same influencing favouralbly agriculture conditions of the given area and especiallly in cases of scarcity of water supply.The possitive influence of afforestation on the agricultulral area, as stated in various geographical conditions, consists mainly in bringing favourable microclimatic changes (the fall of wind speed and evaporation, amelioration of water conditions, mechanical prtotection against destructive action of strong sea-winds, etc). Change of microclimatic conditions of given area by means of afforestation exerts an influence also on its fauna and flora. Researches carried on at Turvia proved that there exists a distinct influence of forest belts on the behaviour of certain animals, either useful or noxious ones as well as on diseases of cultivated plants. Among others there was stated the negative influence of afforestation on dispersion of colorado beetle, but a positive one as regards spread of the leaf curl of sugar beet (Beta virus 3). In the general effect the afforestation, as far as Wielkopolska region is concrned, proves to bring more profits than damages which may be evidenced by positive influence of same on the amount of crop.
