 abstract={The purpose of this article is to analyze monuments and other memorials dedicated to those who died in World War I in the western part of Opolian Silesia. The authors conducted field research and examined archival, cartographic, iconographic and egodocumentary sources. The paper presents various commemorative forms and contains examples of them, as well as pointing out factors shaping pre-war and post-war practices related to these memorials. Also described are the changes taking place in local communities and their attitudes toward the memorial landscape. The study is completed by catalogue of commemorations identified in the conducted research.},
