Abstract:

Aside from the major role of tRNA in ribosomal protein biosynthesis, many other processes have beendiscovered in which tRNA or aminoacyl-tRNA is implicated. However, only few of these processes are understood in detail, and often the mechanism of a particular reaction or its significance has remainedelusive. It is clear, that in some cases tRNA and aminoacyl-tRNA act as regulators of particular metabolicprocesses. These multiple roles of tRNA, aminoacyl-tRNA and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases lend a newdimension to the study of these macromolecules. There is a renaissance in the research on and the investigation of these other functions of tRNA, but there may be a tendency to assemble regulatory roles to stillpoorly understood tRNA functions
