 abstract={This article is a review of Russian historian Vitaly Tikhonov’s 2024 book on Soviet historiography during the Stalinist era in the USSR. The author of this publication analysed the role that history played in the Stalinist political system. Joseph Stalin used history to maintain his own legitimacy, build the state system and administration, justify territorial expansion and the annexation of territories from neighbouring countries, social and patriotic mobilisation, and especially to interfere in the professional and private lives of individuals.},
