 abstract={This review article provides an in-depth analysis of Monika Milewska’s book 'Ślepa kuchnia. Jedzenie i ideologia w PRL' [The Windowless Kitchen: Food and Ideology in the People’s Republic of Poland], highlighting its place in contemporary research on the society of the People’s Republic of Poland and on food history, as well as the specific methodological framework adopted by the author and her source base. On the one hand, the article appreciates the book’s attempt to present a comprehensive history of food and dining in the People’s Republic of Poland, thereby raising the profile of this line of research within the history of Polish society in the second half of the twentieth century. At the same time, it polemicises against the approach that ignores the existing findings of Central and Eastern European historians on the transfer of culinary expertise and the development of food and nutrition technology in the region, which indirectly leads to an excessive emphasis on the ideologisation of everyday life.},
