Abstract:

This text reviews the book „Mosty Wzajemnego zrozumienia. Wizyta Billy’ego Grahama w Polsce w październiku 1978 roku” [The Bridges of Mutual Understanding. Billy Graham’s Visit to Poland in October 1978], written by Polish historian and Americanist Włodzimierz Batóg. The book situates the American preacher’s visit in the context of the Polish People’s Republic’s religious policy, the postwar history of Polish and global Protestantism, and the 1970s geopolitical détente. The publication adds significant value to research on the history of Polish Protestantism and on the religious and cultural aspects of the Cold War.
