Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Foci encephalomalaciae multiplices hemisphaerii cerebri utratque trunci. Atrophia cerebri senilis. Arterio- et arteriolo-sclerosis. Autopsy examination of 67-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with H-E, PAS and Van Gieson's method.Numerous foci of encephalomalacia of varying size were observed in the cerebral hemispheres and in the basal part of the pons. The ventricular system was dilated. Significant thinning of the cerebral cortex was noted. Generalized atherosclerotic lesions were seen in arteries of all calibe.
