Description:

Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis

Abstract:

Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia fornicis. Autopsy examination of 61-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, Cresyl violet, Heidenhain, Holzer and Van Gieson's stain.Malacia and perivascular haemorrhages were observed in the fornix arm. There was an extremely abundant proliferation of glial tissue around the focus with formation of tracts, in some places astrocytic rosettes and subfoveal glia which resembled neoplastic proliferation of subependymoma. However, it may be that this was a simple reactive glia in an area of a high proliferative capacity.
