Abstract:Histological diagnosis: Encephalomalacia partim haemorrhagica. Meningitis necrotoxica purulenta. Arteriosclerosis minoris gradus.Autopsy examination of 81-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin, PAS and Van Gieson's method. In the specimen from the cerebral hemisphere, an extensive area of necrosis was observed, partially hemorrhagic, with intense macrophage reaction and features of peripheral hypoxia. Low severity atherosclerotic lesions with predominance of vitreous lesions were noted. There was a massive infiltration of multinucleated leukocytes in the adjacent subarachnoid space. The meninges were thickened and fibrotic.
