Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Malacia pontis. Autopsy examination of 86-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained by H-E, Van Gieson's and Cresyl violet stain.Unilaterally in the middle cerebellum and in its basal part malacia foci in the advanced stage of disassembly resulting from thrombotic lesions in the basilar artery of the brain. Nerve cells were almost completely absent in the upper part. In the meninges near the vessels symptomatic inflammatory reaction consisted of lymphocytes and single plasma cells and macrophages.s
