Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Arteriosclerosis cerebri gradu mediocri.Autopsy examination of 75-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.Small and medium caliber vessels showed fibrous and vitreous changes. In single vessels, appendage hypertrophy was seen. The cerebral cortex showed slight cellular thinning, especially in layer III cortex. Sparse steatosis of the large pyramidal cells of the cortex and the dentate nucleus of the cerebellum was observed. The cerebellum showed thinning of the Purkinje cell layer. The meninges had an increased amount of fibrous tissue.
