Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Atrophia cerebri gr. mediocris. Arteriosclerosis cerebri.Autopsy examination of 80-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method and frozen sections stained with Bielschowsky method.Cellular thinning and degenerative changes such as steatosis and tigrolysis were observed in the cortex. Cells of the thalamus and the dentate nucleus were completely steatotic. The vessels were atheromatically altered. The lowest severity of changes were observed in the cortex /only fibrous changes/. In some places lymphocyte-like cells, erythrocytes and macrophages were found near vessels. There were features of congestion throughout all the nervous system. No senile plaques were found.
