New Fallomyrma species from Baltic amber ; Nowy gatunek mrówki z kopalnego rodzaju Fallomyrma Dlussky & Radchenko (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Myrmicinae) z bursztynu bałtyckiego
Muzeum i Instytut Zoologii Polskiej Akademii Nauk
A new species, Fallomyrma czechowskii sp. nov., is described based on a single worker from Baltic amber. It most closely resembles F. transversa Dlussky & Radchenko, which is known from Rovno, Bitterfeld and Danish amber, but differs from it in having a longer head, a lower petiolar node, a longer antennal scape, and in having distinctly incrassated femora and tibiae. It differs from F. anodonta Radchenko & Dlussky in the presence of short spines on the propodeum, a shorter head, a lower petiolar node, and a slightly larger size. A new species differs from F. marginata Radchenko & Dlussky in its longer head, lower petiolar node, absence of the longitudinal carinae laterally outlining the dorsal surface of the propodeum, and absence of transversal rugosity on the propodeal dorsum. Finally, F. czechowskii sp. nov. differs from F. robusta Radchenko & Dlussky in a slenderer body, noticeably longer head, and lower petiolar node. It is the first find of the genus Fallomyrma from Baltic amber, while the origin of this piece of amber (i.e., Baltic or Rovno amber) requires confirmation.
