Abstract:On the basis of the observations so far carried out, it has been confirmed that changes taking place in the annual cycle. and from year to year, in the qualitative and quantitative composition of zooplankton, have an important influence on the composition of the food of plankton-eating fish. The selectivity of the fish is clearly shown in their preference of Cladocera to Copepoda, and of larger forms to smaller ones. Of the two groups of plankton animals represented in the greatest numbers in the Firth of Szczecin, the rotifers and crustaceans, the former is used by the fry as a food anly to a small degree, and only for a short period (2 to 3 weeks).
