The photo depicts two women posing for a photo in a stylish interior (a stylized photographic studio?). Both women are elegantly dressed. One of them is sitting in a high chair with her hand leaning against a table and is holding a book on her knees. She is wearing a long dress with a patterned top. The other woman is standing behind her. She is wearing a long dark dress and a string of light-coloured beads tied in a knot. At the back of the photo there is an inscription saying: “Katarzyna (…) and Helena (…) an organist’s maid in Stary Zamość. Year 1916”. According to its owner, the photo depicts two friends, residents of Stary Zamość ; 1916, Stary Zamość ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
