Jenota Nyctereutes procyonoides (Gray, 1834) introdukowano w europejskiej części Związku Radzieckiego począwszy od roku 1928 do lat 50-tych, sprowadzając go początkowo znad Amuru, a później wyłapując okazy z nowopowstałych populacji. Łącznie przesiedlono około 9000 okazów. Przeszło 2000 wypuszczono na Białorusi i Ukrainie (Tabela 1, ryc. 1), skąd zaczęły one przenikać do Polski. Nowe materiały dotyczące rozmieszczenia, liczebności i rozprzestrzeniania się jenota w Polsce (Tabela 2, ryc. 2) zebrane zostały drogą ankiety do nadleśnictw oraz poprzez apele ogłoszone w dwóch czasopismach.
