The photograph shows a group of men (prisoners of war?) in thick, long, dark overcoats and caps digging a ditch. In the foreground you can see two men carrying a yoke, one of them with a thick cord round his waist. On the right side there is a portly man in an unbuttoned military coat, from which you can see the uniform. Behind them stand four other men with tools in his hands. In the background you can see a vast field and the sun setting behind the forest ; The author of the photograph was the father of the photo owner.
