Description:

The portrait depicts a woman and a man, both festively dressed, with a small girl. The woman is wearing a light-coloured headscarf and has a string of beads with a cross on her neck. The girl is also wearing a string of beads and a cross. The inscription at the back of the photo says: “Our beloved uncle Andrzej (…) with his Wife and daughter Władzia”. According to the photo owner’s account, they lived in the village of Starce until 1939 and then moved to the village of Zagóra, located two kilometres away. They died in 1943. The photo was taken in 1918 in Sieradz ; 1918, Sieradz ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
