The analysis of chipped stone artifacts of the Moravian Corded Ware culture leads to the concept of two different chipping industries within this unit. The older one (denoted MCWC IIIab) reflects the Neolithic chipping tradition. The younger one (MCWC IIIc) is technically close to industries of the Early Bronze Age. Examination of lithic raw material utilized in the culture under discussion gives a possible explanation of these differences. We presume that deposits of good glaciofluvial silexes north of the Moravian Gates, economically vital in MCWC IIIab, were subsequently taken under control by groups of a new unit - namely the Chlopice-Vesele culture. This event is recognized by us as an important factor contributing to the decline of the Moravian Corded Ware culture
