Description:
The photograph shows a young, barefoot woman with a bucket in her hand, standing at the well and a soldier well in the uniform of an officer and a side cap sitting on a masonry of the well. The man holds in his hands a mess kit and a spoon. Next to him there is a wooden little barrel. The woman is dressed in a plaid dress with a collar and a Bright apron. Her hand is based on the keg and she looks to a soldier. In the background you can see a building, tall trees and a fence ; According to the account of the owner of a photo it was taken in 1920 in the home of her grandparents when troops stationed at quarters in it. On the photo you can see her mother and a soldier at the well ; The owner of the photo was born in the house of her grandparents and spent every summer there. The house survived to the 2nd World War. It burned down in the fourth day of the war ; On the back of the photo there is an inscription: “My mother with a soldier, which was at the quarters in Grandparents’s house in 1920”. On the left side: “Olkusz, 13 X 2 Dear Miss Gienia! For now, I send you a photograph that you borrowed me. Best regards K. Li ... (name illegible) ; The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
