Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Focus haemorrhagicus in regione nucleorum basalium sinistrorum cum haemorrhagia secundaria mesencephalis. Atherosclerosis gradus mediocris.Autopsy examination of 69-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.A hemorrhagic focus was found within the left hemisphere putamen, dissecting the surrounding tissue. The periphery showed hemorrhage, blood vessels, glial cells with hemosiderin transforming in a scavanger direction. Thinning of the tissue structure was observed around the focus. A hemorrhagic focus of similar appearance was present in the covering part of the midbrain. The meningeal vessels were congested, atheromatically altered, with a thickened wall, especially in the area of the inner membrane, with a narrowed lumen.
