Clinical, anatomical and histological diagnosis
Histological diagnosis: Haemorrhagia cerebelli.Autopsy examination of 70-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson staining. In general, moderate atherosclerotic lesions were observed throughout the brain, and widening of the vascular spaces was evident in the basal ganglia and white matter. A fresh hemorrhagic focus was found in the cerebellum, into relatively unaltered tissue, with several circular hemorrhages in the area. There was extensive edema in the vicinity of the hemorrhage in the nucleus dentatus and cerebellar cortex. Death may have occurred due to increased pressure in the posterior cranial cavity.
